With the season in full swing, post card pictures of Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera were the inspiration for this Bleuette summer ensemble. A few of these shirred cotton bathing suits appeared in The Gautier- Languerer catalogue during the 1950's. I chose "Ondine" ( Water-Sprite) and paired it with the veste du plage , a pattern from the La Semaine de Suzette magazine.
I used a floral printed cotton lawn with elasticized shirring for the bathing suit. It closes at the shoulders with two mother-of pearl buttons. Her waistline is defined by the matching belt with a mother-of-pearl buckle. Her adorable sunhat is lined and ties securely under her sweet little chin.
The vest is terry cloth ( called "sponge in the G-L catalogue- interesting...) and hand embroidered with the original motif from the pattern. The vest also closes with a mother-of-pearl button.
This outfit will be so much fun to accessorize with a sea shell, maybe a bucket and spade, or even just a beach towel.I sized this ensemble to fit both vintage and reproduction Bleuettes.Note: doll and shoes not included.
