vintage reproduction print dress with cherry-trimmed bonnet and leather belt
G-L Le Temp de Cerises 1954
One of the many reasons behind my Bleuette passion are the illustrations in the catalogues of ready-made clothing offered by the publisher of La Semaine de Suzette. These catalogs were rendered brilliantly, in different illustrative styles that evolved over the years.
It is always grand fun for me to re-create these wonderful fashions with an effort to reproduce some of the lovely details as drawn by the original designer.
Paying homage to the original Gautier-Languereau creation from the 1954, my rendition was created from an all-over cherry printed fabric. 1005 cotton"Auntie Grace" repro print, with a vintage velveteen bias neck finish. The skirt is gathered and placed over the bodice, with the belt placed just below the ruffle edge; an interesting treatment of the skirt that I've just started to notice in other G-L designs. Hidden hooks and eyes close the back.
The belt is genuine leather, top-stitched in red, with a genuine pearl back closure.
Her hat is Swiss paglina braid, unlined and trimmed with hand-crafted cherries and a vintage gros-grain ribbon.
I sized this outfit to fit both reproduction and vintage Bleuettes.
